Violence erupted in Patna following the kidnapping of a seven-year-old girl by unidentified persons on Friday, the police said.

The agitators burnt tyres at different points on Bailey Road and broke windscreens of around half-a dozen vehicles to protest the kidnapping, which comes barely a fortnight after the abduction of Siddhant Parmar, the eight-year-old son of a SBI bank officer and nephew of Bihar Sugarcane Minister Raghvendra Pratap Singh.

The situation was brought under control when police chased away the mob after a mild lathi-charge. There was no report of any casualty.

The road blockade on Bailey Road has since been lifted, the police said.

Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain normalcy, they said.

The kidnapped girl, Sweta Kumari, daughter of Santosh Kumar, was taken hostage at gunpoint when she was waiting for her school rickshaw outside her residence in East Patel Nagar under Shastrinagar police station on Friday morning.

Siddhant, who still remains traceless, was also on his way to school when he was kidnapped from near Jagdeo Path under the same police station on July 24.
