Post-graduate programme in Forestry Management 

The Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal, an autonomous institute under the Union ministry of environment and forests, invites applications for its post-graduate programme in forestry management. Academic session 2004 to 2006.

Admission to the fully residential two-year post-graduate programme is open to graduates from all disciplines provided s/he fulfils the eligibility criteria and passes the selection process. A few seats are available for SAARC and NRI/Foreign Nationals/NRI sponsored students.

Indian Candidates

Eligibility: Applicants should have at least a three year bachelor's degree in any discipline or an equivalent qualification, recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as eligible for post-graduate studies.

Candidates appearing for the final degree examination are eligible to apply provided they complete the requirements of their graduate examination and expected to fulfill the eligibility criteria as set by IIFM.

Selection Procedure

Written Test (CAT Examination): All applicants desirous of seeking admission to IIFM, Bhopal, have to appear for the Common Admission Test conducted by the IIMs. IIFM will use the CAT score to short-list candidates. The IIMs have no role in the selection process or in conduct of the programme. The date for this year's CAT exam has already been advertised in leading newspapers. The CAT Bulletin and Application Forms can be obtained at select State Bank of India branches.

Group Discussion/Interview: Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their CAT score are called for a group discussion and interview at IIFM during April/May every year.

Reservation: 15% and 7.5% of the seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes respectively provided they meet the minimum selection criteria as specified by IIFM. Three percent seats are reserved for physically disabled persons as per Government of India rules.

How To Apply:

To get the application form and bulletin, applicants may send a request along with a demand draft (non-refundable of Rs 600; Rs 300 for SC/ST) drawn in favour of the Director IIFM, payable at Bhopal (No other mode of payment will be accepted) to the Coordinator-PFM Admissions, IIFM, Nehru Nagar, Bhopal 462 003.  The request letter should contain the candidate's name and address and details of the demand draft.

Candidates shortlisted for the group discussion and interview at IIFM are intimated by registered post/telegram during March/April. Individual regret letters will not be sent to applicants who are not called for the group discussion and interview.

SAARC/Foreign Nationals/NRIs: Admission under these categories will be based on a separate selection system as mentioned in the admission bulletin.

TTDC to conduct Adi tours

The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation has introduced special tours to coincide with auspicious 'Adi' days in August.

A four-day tour covering six Lord Muruga temples will leave Chennai every Thursday morning and return on Sunday night. Tariff: Rs 2,400 for single room accommodation; Rs 2,100 for double room sharing; Rs 1,900 for a child. It also covers non air-conditioned transport/accommodation, the services of a guide, parking and entrance fees.

A day-long tour to the Muruga temple at Mailam, the Vakrakalimman temple at Thiruvakarai, the Angala Parameswari temple at Melmalayanur and the Adi Parasakthi temple at Melmaruvathur has also been introduced for this month. The tour will leave Chennai on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and return the same night. Tariff: Rs 325 per person. This will cover non air-conditioned transport and the services of a guide.

TTDC has also launched a Navasakthi tour to all Sakthi temples in and around Chennai. Tariff: Rs 165 per person.

A tour covering the Navagraha temple at Kumbakonam and Thanjavur starts from Chennai on Friday night and returns the following Monday. Tariff: Rs 850 per person sharing a double room. It covers non air-conditioned transport and accommodation, the services of a guide, entrance and parking fees.

The Corporation has also launched a tour from Chennai to Arunachaleshwarar temple in Tiruvannamalai on full moon days. Tariff: Rs 255 per person. It covers only girivalam.
