Pakistan postpones SAARC summit

December 09, 2002 16:18 IST

Pakistan on Monday indefinitely postponed the seven-nation South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit it was to host because of India's refusal to confirm attendance.

The meeting, which was to be held from January 11 to 13 in Islamabad, has been postponed indefinitely. The participation of all seven SAARC members is compulsory for a summit to take place.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has insisted on complete stoppage of crossborder terrorism as a precondition to his attending the summit.
