December 03, 2002 21:12 IST

Kamla Bora in Jaipur

A Taiwanese tourist, Lee Ching Ya, was found murdered in Hotel Gangaur Ghat near Pichhola Lake in Udaipur on Tuesday, Jaipur police said.

The victim was found on the bed with a pillow on her face. She was apparently strangulated, the police said, adding her companion, Gopal Sharma from Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, was missing.

The 22-year-old Taiwanese tourist and Sharma had checked in on Sunday morning. They had come after visiting Pushkar and Ajmer in Rajasthan.

They visited different places in Udaipur on Monday and had their dinner at around 2300 IST.

The Taiwanese Embassy in New Delhi was informed, the police said.
