I Am Sorry Banni Mathe Preethsona, which releases this week, is familiar to Kannada film buffs thanks to all the pre-release publicity and controversy, some of it good but most of it bad. The film has romantic hero Prem in the lead.

When some of the stills of the film were leaked, the tabloids had a field day. A lip-lock between Prem and one of the heroines, Karishma Tanna, created a lot of buzz because Prem has a family and female fan following. Prem declared there was no such scene.

Hardly had the hullabaloo over the kissing scene died down, when there were rumours that Prem had gone nude in a bathroom scene! A film technician was blamed for spreading the "false" story and picture.

Next it was Tanna's turn to spit fire. She accused the director of not showcasing her in posters or inviting her for the film's publicity event.

She even said that he had cheated her by making her believe that she was the lead actress, but later said someone else would play the lead. She sent a notice to Ravindra demanding to see the film before it was screened for the public. Ravindra refused and said she could see it with everyone else.

Another actress, Sanjana, then claimed that she had herself dubbed for the film, refuting the news that an RJ had been roped in to give her the voice.

So far, the film has been embroiled in just controversies. Ravindra has said in response that his film will give a fitting reply to all the allegations.

So, what is this film all about and why is there so much hype around it?

I am sorry is said to be heavy on family values, especially those associated with marriage. The story develops as a much-in-love couple start having differences following a chance incident that involves the husband.

Only Friday will tell if all the noise was worth it.

The team is quite impressive all the same. Director Ravindra made advertisement films in Mumbai prior to this venture. Guruprasad, known for his punchy dialogues, has penned the lines. Anup Silin is the music director. There are said to be 15 songs in the film. Ashok Kashyap is behind the camera.

Apart from Tana, who acts in Hindi TV serials, and Sanjana, Nidhi Subbaiaha of Pancharangi fame is part of the cast. There's some mystery about the identity of another actor, which will be revealed only in the film. There are plans to make the film in Hindi.
