Actor Vinod Raj plays double role in Shukra (Kannada film), a film that is produced by actress Leelavathi (Vinod Raj's mother) with the sole intention of enhancing her son's action image. Yes, he has enough of fights and dances to please his fans, but despite his good performance, the film falls flat because of the insipid storyline and an age-old narration by the director G K Mudduraj.

Vinod Raj had tasted success a year ago in Kannadadha Kandha made again by his mother. In Shukra, Leelavathi has opted for a subject that has all the commercial elements in it to lift the sagging career of her son.

Watching Shukra can be a torrid experience. It seems the filmmaker is not aware of the changes that have taken place in the last thirty years. It is as if director Mudduraj has not watched any of the recent Kannada films. If he had, he would not have made a film like this.

Vinod Raj plays the role of a daring police officer, Surya who investigates the case of the kidnap of a young girl.

Vinod Raj has delivered a good performance in the role of Shukra.  Heroine Priya Dikshit has nothing much to do other than to romance with the hero. Neenasam Aswath as the villain has such terrible mannerisms that he irritates you.

Neither the music nor the camera work need any mention.

Watch it only if you are a hardcore Vinod Raj fan!
