At seven, Saloni Daini is the youngest stand-up comedian in the telly world. She's the most talented in her age group too, proven by the fact that she won Colors' comedy reality show, Chhote Miyan, last week.
The Pune-based girl is not new to television. She has faced the camera from the age of three, acting in Marathi serials, two Marathi films, a music album for Disney, and Hindi film Dhoom Kate with Amol Palekar. She also mimicks film stars and politicians, and was seen in the promos of Shah Rukh Khan's Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain.
Saloni talks to Rajul Hegde about fame, comedy and more.
So how did you do comedy, and think of new acts?
We have a trainer, who helps us will this. Winning the title was a big surprise for us.
I will be paired with Rajeev Thakkur in Chhote Miyan Bade Miyan. He's a good mentor.
Which was your best act?
All my acts were appreciated. I got good comments from the judges and the public. My best ones were when I acted like a maid called Gangubai, Nagin, an air hostess and Sonia Gandhi.
Did you make friends on the show?
Yes, I made many friends. (Contestant) Ayesha is my best friend. I play with her when I am not shooting.
Do people recognise you on the streets?
Yes. They call me Gangubhai. Children ask me for my autograph.
Did this show affect your studies?
I can balance my studies very well because I rehearse for four hours in a week only, and shoot on the weekends. I manage my studies very well.
Will we see you in TV serials next?
No. I will do reality shows and films only.
Who is your favourite actor?
Priyanka Chopra. I want to become an actress when I grow up.
Saloni's mother Sanyogita, a psychologist, says, "Saloni was consistent throughout the show. She started doing comedy from the age of three, by watching comedy shows on TV. She would entertain everyone in school with her Gangubhai act during fancy dress competitions. We will save the prize money of Rs 11 lakhs in a fixed deposit. She will decide what she wants to do with it when she grows up."
