Sidharth: No regrets over Baar Baar Dekho

'Maybe we failed but at least we tried something new,' Sidharth Malhotra reasons.

Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra aren't moping over the poor fate of their film together Baar Baar Dekho. They have moved on to their respective new movies -- Katrina will Tiger Zinda Hai with Salman Khan, and Sidharth with his untitled action film with Jacqueline Fernandez.

Sidharth is not remorseful about taking up Baar Baar Dekho.

"Maybe we failed but at least we tried something new," he reasons. "When I heard the script for Baar Baar Dekho, it was one of the most exciting ideas I had come across. What a lovely thought! The heart was in the right place.”

He says he never question his choices.

"I only question certain methods and processes in the movie making business. I think after failure, I’ve come out more experienced and slightly wiser," he says.

What makes Sidharth sad is that this failure may deter other filmmakers and actors from trying out-of-the-box projects.

"I know if I meet a director with a new idea, I’ll be more guarded in my response. Or I’ll be thinking anxiously about whether the script works for me as a member of the audience. The experience has made me more conscious of my future. Had Baar Baar Dekho worked better, maybe I wouldn’t be so careful with the modalities of making a film," he says.

Katrina and Sidharth had promoted Baar Baar Dekho with a vengeance, even "stepping out of their comfort zones".

"You definitely question yourself when so much hard work is not rewarded. I heard an interesting quote on marketing: ‘Marketing is like God. If you believe in it, it works for you. Even if you don’t believe in it, you still hope it works.' Nobody knows why so much marketing is done for our movies," he continues.

"I am still going to choose only those scripts that I believe in. I stand by my choices. If I like a script and a role, it doesn’t matter how many other actors are there or how many scenes I have. All the films that I have done so far tell stories that I want to tell," he says.

What if, like his character in Baar Baar Dekho, Sidharth had the ability to go into the future and see its fate, would he still do the film?

"Oh, I’d still do the film but maybe differently. I still think it has great potential. Now it’s already done, so no point in thinking of what can’t be fixed," he says.
