The 62nd National Film Awards saw President Pranab Mukherjee felicitate the best of Indian cinema from last year.

Actress Kangna Ranaut receives her Best Actress awards from President Pranab Mukherjee for her widely acclaimed turn in Vikas Bahl's Queen.

This is Kangna's second National award win after she bagged the Best Supporting Actress trophy for Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion in 2009.

While Bollywood stars are known to favour more traditional outfits for the ceremony, Kangna turned up in a stylish Bibhu Mohapatra gown to accept her award.

Also seen in the background are Arun Jaitley, Union minister for finance, corporate affairs and information & brroadcasting, and Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (retd) (extreme right), the minister of state for information & broadcasting.

Vijay, who won the award for his turn as a transgender in the Kannada film Nanu Avanalla Avalu (I Am Not A He, But She), is the first Kannada actor to win a National Award

Haider director Vishal Bharadwaj greets Mary Kom director Omung Kumar at the ceremony.

While Haider bagged three trophies -- Best Male Playback Singer (Sukhwinder Singh) for the Bismil song; Best Screenplay (Dialogues), Best Music Direction, and Best Costume Design (Dolly Ahluwalia), Kumar's Mary Kom was adjudged the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Uttara Unnikrishnan receives the Best Female Playback singer award for the Azhagu (Beautiful) song from the Tamil film Saivam.

Actor-producer Dhanush's Kaakkamuttai won the Best Children's Film award.

Dhanush tweeted after the ceremony: 'With my national award as a producer for #kaakkamuttai (best children's film) #wunderbarfilms #grassrootfilmcompany'

Director Vikas Bahl accepts the Best Film award for Queen.

Chaitanya Tamhane's widely praised Marath Court won the Best Feature Film trophy, while the Best Debut Film of A Director went to Aditya Vikram Sengupta for Asha Jaoar Majhe.

Bobby Simha bagged the Best Supporting Actor for the Tamil film Jigarthanda while Best Supporting Actress went to Baljinder Kaur for her turn in the Punjabi film Pagdi The Honour.
