'The film is a double hero film. Both Naresh and I are heroes,' Karthika Nair describes her new film.

Karthika Nair is known to be very selective about the films she does.

Her last Telugu film was Dammu (2012).

In her new film Brother Of Bommali, directed by Chinni Krishna, she plays the role of Allari Naresh's twin sister.

The film is set to release on November 7.

In this telephone interview conducted between shots of her Tamil film Purampokku in Chennai, Karthika discusses her new film in which she has performed her own stunts.

You haven't done a Telugu film since 2012. What made you sign Brother Of Bommali?

I signed it purely because of the character. One gets many opportunities to play a typical glamorous heroine, but only one chance in a lifetime to play an author-backed part.

It's the story of twin brother and sister. When the director was narrating the story, I wondered why he was narrating the hero's character to me.

Only later did I realise that it was my role he had narrated. It was new and powerful, right from the introduction to the action sequences, to the romance element.

Tell us a little bit about your role.

It was not like the usual sister's role. I was totally like a guy. The film is a double hero film. Both Naresh and I are heroes.

I thought they might chop the role later, but they did not.

The film revolves around how I ruin Naresh's life and how Naresh helps my love life.

My character too has a love track, with Harshvardhan Rane, which is an integral part of the story.

They asked me for 80 days of shooting when I signed. In this film both Naresh and I have received top billing.

Did you have to prepare for the role?

Most films start within a week of my signing them and I have no time for homework.

This film required a change in attitude and mannerisms. I had to be like a tomboy. It was the ultimate test as an actor.

Did you do any action in the film?

One day I would be told I had to punch someone and use the rope. In fact when doing Dammu, Trisha and I would watch Ram-Laxman Masters choreograph for Tarak (NTR Jr).

And this time they were choreographing for me!

I am a fitness freak so I was naturally fit to do the action sequences.

I have heard people say that they got into the character and it was difficult for them to get out of it after the film was over. I am still experiencing a hangover of the role.

You were dressed like that too...

I was dressed like a glamorous tomboy.

Is the film a laugh riot?

Completely, from the first shot. Naresh's films are like that.

Brahmanandam, Ali and Srinivas Reddy are also there in this film. This is the first time that I have done a comedy masala movie!

Allari Naresh has a good sense of comic timing. What was it like acting with him?

I did not have to try hard.

The director and Naresh were helpful. In fact, Naresh even offered me some of his one-liners.

Tell us about the director Chinni Krishna...

He is an amazing director with the most amazing comic timing.

He is perfect to handle such a huge cast. When he came to narrate the script, I wondered if he used the excuse of the script to meet my mom (he is a huge fan of Karthika's actress mum Radha)!

He is absolutely sure of what he wants.

What else can one look forward to in the film?

After a long time there is a brother-sister based story, and it can be watched by the whole family.

I feel like I have done a hundred films due to the experience I got. Generally the range of emotions one gets to play are limited.

My character gets to display a wide range of emotions in Brother Of Bommali.

How does it feel shooting in all the main four languages of South India - Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam?

It feels like home in all the industries. Everyone knows my mom so it's like meeting one's own family.
