The news is official: Paheli is India's entry for the 2006 Oscars!

The Amol Palekar film is produced by Shah Rukh Khan, and pits the actor in a double role with Rani Mukerji.

The other films considered for the nomination were Mangal Pandey, Veer-Zaara, Iqbal, Swades, Parineeta, Page 3, Black, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Sachein (Tamil), Anniyan (Tamil), Uttarayan (Marathi), Achuvante Anna (Malayalam), Graham (Telugu), and Kadal (Tamil).
