Bachchan, Rani in race for Golden Globes

BlackBollywood blockbusters Black, Paheli and Veer-Zaara are among the foreign films that qualified for nominations at the prestigious Golden Globe Awards, which precedes the Oscars.

Amol Palekar's fantasy Paheli [Images], Yash Chopra's [Images] romance across the Indo-Pak border Veer Zaara [Images], and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's [Images] Black, the story of a blind girl and her mentor played, are among the 60 foreign films selected for nomination to the 63rd edition of the awards.

Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan [Images] and Rani Mukerji [Images] star in all three films. Shah Rukh [Images] stars in Veer-Zaara and Paheli.

Paheli has already been nominated as India's entry to the Oscars. As many as 60 foreign films have qualified for the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, Philip Berk, the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, organisers of the Golden Globe, announced yesterday.

There are four entries from China in the list dominated by European films. The nominations will take place on December 13 at the Beverly Hilton. The 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 16, 2006 at the Beverly Hilton. The programme is being produced by Dick Clark Productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, with Allen Shapiro and Barry Adelman as executive producers.

It will be closely watched, considering winners at the Golden Globes often emerge as the chosen ones to lift the Oscars.
