Lenovo launches Android tablets in India

Lenovo, one of the fastest growing PC makers, amongst much fanfare launched its IdeaPad K1 and ThinkPad tablets in India on Tuesday.

As part of this global strategy, over the next six months, Lenovo will introduce tablets of varying sizes and platforms, thus aiming to create a range that would cater to individual needs of its customers.

With this launch, Lenovo hopes to attract first time buyers with its high value-proposition. These tablets are the company's first mobile internet devices featuring the Android 3.1 platform.

IdeaPad K1
Price: Rs 29,500 (32GB Wi-Fi ) and Rs 33,990 (32GB Wi-Fi+3G)

The IdeaPad K1 is the Lenovo's first Android Honeycomb tablet, and is aimed at the casual user. The tablet comes with a 10 inch capacitive touch display, and is on the heavier side weighing 0.75 kg.

It also features Android 3.1 and Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.0 Ghz. Besides, it has 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi connectivity options.

Its capacitive touch screen also promises 10 point multi-touch. The IdeaPad also will come preloaded with 40 apps specially customised for Indian users.

ThinkPad
Price: Rs 30,000 to Rs 47,000 (approx)

If IdeaPad is for the casual user, ThinkPad is for the businessmen. ThinkPad offers some corporate friendly features such as computrace, which helps to locate the tablet if it's lost or stolen. Here, users can also remotely freeze the device or delete all the data remotely if it can't be recovered.

This Lenovo tablet also comes with Citrix Receiver which allows the tablet to remotely access PC desktops and use the applications as if they were running natively.

ThinkPad Tablet comes with an optional digitiser pen, a full-size USB port, full-size SD card slot, and mini-HDMI for connecting to external projectors and displays, as well as an optional ThinkPad quality Keyboard Folio Case with optical TrackPoint.

IdeaPad A1

Lenovo also launched the IdeaPad A1, priced at Rs 16,990.

IdeaPad A1 is a mobile entertainment device with a 7" premium display and touch, weighing just 1.7 lbps and thickness of 0.5". It has GPS navigation with offline map available in Lenovo app.

It has been optimized for the web with Flash, full DRM and instant data syncing. It is also the only Android 2.3 in 7" with full support of 10.2 Flash content, plus Lenovo SocialTouch to manage all social networking engagements on a single, easy-to-use interface.
