Maharajas' Express is the most luxurious train in India offering 5 journeys covering some of the most beautiful and historic destinations.

With fares ranging from Rs 3,09,600 ($3,420) to Rs 14,22,000 ($23,700), the journey is one of the most expensive among world’s luxury trains.

The Maharajas' Express was voted ‘The World's Leading Luxury Train’ at The World Travel Awards in 2012 and 2013.

The most expensive luxury train in Asia, it has been listed in the list of World's Top 25 Trains 2011.

Owned and operated by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the majestic Maharajas' Express also bagged first runner up award in the Specialist Train Operators Category at Conde Nast Travelers Reader Choice Travel Award in 2011.

Luxury train travel started in India in 1982 with the ‘Palace on Wheels’ which offered trips in Rajasthan.

The Maharajas' Express is one of the six luxury trains in India that promises to offer the best in travel, traditional food and hospitality.

With a capacity to carry 88 guests,  14 guest carriages are divided into 20 deluxe cabins, 18 junior suites, 4 suites and one presidential suite.

The Presidential Suite, called Navratna has two bedrooms, a separate living area, a dining room and a modern private bathroom with a bath tub.

There are 20 junior suites with maximum capacity of 36 passengers.

Children below 5 years will be allowed to travel free. A child between 5 and 12 years will be charged 50 per cent of the adult fare.

All the trips are all inclusive of accommodation in double sharing cabins, on board meals, in house brand of wines and spirits, butler service and guided off train excursions.

Maharajas’ Express is centrally air-conditioned. However, every cabin has an individual temperature controlling device.

Accommodation is available as twin cabin and double and each cabin can accommodate 2 passengers.

The presidential suite can accommodate up to a maximum of 4 passengers.

Every cabin has a Live TV with satellite channels, DVD player and direct dial phones.

To make the journey more exciting, the train has two restaurants - Mayur Mahal and Rang Mahal, each restaurant can cater to 44 guests.

The restaurants serve cuisines from around the world including traditional Indian, Chinese, Continental and authentic Mewari cuisines.
