The winner of the 2009 Golden Steering Wheel and the Best Off-Roader in Europe Audi Q5 would now be assembled in Aurangabad, India. However, the price of this compact SUV model will not be changed.

Audi India's official spokesperson said, "Yes, we are looking to assemble Q5 by the middle of this year from our Aurangabad facility.

"The Audi CKD production site in Aurangabad can be adapted to the demand of the Indian market. We have been absorbing the price differentials as it was an introductory price. But once we start importing Q5's CKD kits, the price will remain the same."

After achieving 58 per cent growth last year (1,658 cars), Audi India's target is to achieve 40 per cent growth in 2010 (2,300 cars).

Benoit Tiers, MD Audi India had said, "The completely knocked down production site in Aurangabad is based on an extremely flexible concept that means it can 'breathe' and can be adapted to new market requirements.

"Around 750 cars were produced at the CKD site in 2009 and by 2015 we plan a yearly production of 5,300 cars."

The company's next step would be that of penetrating the Tire II and Tier III cities and grabbing at least 30 per cent of the luxury market share by 2011.
