Coffee is a brewed beverage with a distinct aroma and flavour prepared from the roasted seeds of the Coffea plant. The seeds are found in coffee "cherries", which grow on trees cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in equatorial Latin America, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa.
Green (unroasted) coffee is one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world.

Once a family-owned coffee plantation split under a 1980 land reform, the Santa Adelaida coffee is now a co-operative dedicated to the production of organically-grown high ground coffee, which is certified by non-governmental organisation Rainforest Alliance, and exported to Germany, the United States, Britain and Japan. The coffee plantation is currently run by a co-operative of over 150 members.
