A 50-member American trade delegation will tour India and Pakistan in August to promote the import of capital equipment into India from the United States.

John Lee, Mayor of Houston, Texas, will lead the trade delegation. During his visit between August 1 and August 8, Lee will reportedly attend business meetings in New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Agra.

The Houston mayor is also expected to sign a partner airport agreement between the International Airport of Houston and the new international airport of Hyderabad, said sources.

In addition, the city of Mumbai might also to be declared a sister port with Houston.

The trip is being organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Indo-American Chambers of Commerce of Houston, and will include over 20 Indian American businesspersons from the Houston area.

"This will be part of President Bush's plans to push job growth in the US," said Harindar Singh, chairman of the Golden Temple Credit Corporation, who will joining the delegation.

"In addition, the import of such machineries into India will also spur businesses and job growth there."

Singh is on the advisory council to the US President for small-scale businesses and creation of jobs for the state of Texas

"Under a special program being offered during the deal, financing for the import of goods will be available from the Export-Import Bank of the United States," Singh said.

The EXIM Bank of the US is the official export credit agency of the United States set up to assist the export financing of US goods and services to international markets, and includes credit and country risks that the private sector is unable or unwilling to accept.
