With several countries advising their citizens against visiting India, Tourism Minister Ambika Soni said on Tuesday the government is targeting to augment the flow of domestic tourists to bailout the tourism sector.

The government is also evolving a comprehensive strategy to minimise any adverse impact of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai on tourism, the minister said.

"Tourism sector will be affected now because many countries have issued advisories to their citizens. We are making a collective review of the situation. At the moment, we are targeting to augment the domestic tourist flow to maintain the momentum," Soni told PTI in New Delhi.

"The tragedy has engulfed everybody now. Two major hotels have been attacked. Now, we will reach out to the stakeholders and do everything that is required to restore the sector," she said.

Asked whether India will approach the countries which have issued advisories to their citizens not to travel the country, she said consultations are on in this regard.

Countries like the US, Britain, France and Australia on Thursday advised their citizens to defer travel to India's commercial capital till further notice.

The advisories had said terrorists in India were 'deliberately' targeting Westerners.

The advisories would affect the flow of tourists which had increased in the last two months.
