Non-gazetted employees and promotee gazetted officers of the Income Tax department all over the country would hold a series of agitations commencing from July 25 in support of their 22-point charter of demands.

The agitation will be conducted under the banner of the Joint Council of Action, a release issued by the Income Tax Employees' Federation, Mumbai circle, said.

Some of their demands are notification of recruitment of rules of inspectors, office superintendent, personal secretary and senior PS, which is pending for action since the cadre-restructuring of the department in 2001.

"This means even after a lapse of nearly five years, the rules are still to see the light of the day, thereby putting a question mark on the career advancement of the employees," ITEF General Secretary Ashok Salunkhe said.

Efforts were made by JCA to bring about a negotiated settlement to the issues but there was no response from the Cenral Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) even on the long-pending issues, he pointed out.

The agitation will start with a dharna at Aaykar Bhavan on July 25, followed by officers and staff members not working beyond office hours and holidays on July 29 and 30.

On July 31, officers and non-gazetted officers will stage a walkout from their offices at 11 a.m. Salunkhe, therefore, requested all salaried taxpayers to file their returns well in advance in order to avoid any inconvenience to them.
