Sony Entertainment Television Network has forayed into digital and licensing business.

It has set up a separate division within the network for the purpose.

N P Singh, who has been recently promoted as the chief operating officer of the network, said, "Several new opportunities have been presented to us through the advancements in technology which we would like to explore. This would also mean new sources of revenue for the company."

The company has already began several initiatives in this regard.

Some of its value-added services include the Singtone where viewers can download the song of the movie shown on MAX channel.

Likewise they have developed mobile games based on some of its popular serials such as Jassi.

The network plans to add further services for its viewers using the mobile technology, which would aim at better interactivity.

The company is also looking at syndication of content. According to Singh, the company has the benefit of having a large content, which has been syndicated worldwide.

The company now plans to consolidate this and look at syndication within the country. Without divulging names, Singh said that the network is in talks with some Indian players who will use its content.

The new division will handle digital marketing, online brand management, mobile and wireless publishing, digital sales and syndication, home video through digital versatile disks and other formats and broadband.

Sunil Lulla, who was the business head of the network, will now be in charge of this new digital and licensing business. Tarun Katial, former programming and response executive vice-president, will head the network's television business.
