Sony India, on Friday, said it has decided to slash the price of its products across specific products by 5 per cent to 16 per cent.

Sony said it will pass on the benefits of the recentĀ custom duty reduction to its customers.

The WEGA flat colour televisions will now cost 5 per cent to 10 per cent less; Sony hi-fi systems will be cheaper by 8 per cent to 10 per cent; and camcorders and digital still cameras will cost 8 per cent to16 per cent less.

With the implementation of the new pricing strategy, an entry level Sony WEGA 21-inch flat CTV will cost Rs 12,990, Sony hi-fi systems range will now start from Rs 15,990, camcorders will now begin retailing at Rs 22,990 and digital still cameras will become more affordable, beginning at Rs 14,990.

"Sony India aim's to ensure that its products retain their international edge on quality and technology while ensuring that they remain a value for money purchase. Our new pricing strategy will make our WEGA televisions, digital imaging products and hi-fi systems available to a larger consumer base in India" said Mohit Parasher, head sales, CAV division, Sony India Pvt Ltd, in a media statement.

"The duty cuts announced by the government earlier this year have also made it easier for the company to pass a larger price benefit to its consumers," he said.

Sony has always enjoyed tremendous brand equity in India. The current drop in prices is another step towards taking the brand closer to a wider range of customers, said Parasher.
