China's commercial hub Shanghai is awaiting the Indian government's decision to forge a strategic partnership with leading states like Gujarat or Maharashtra for promoting bilateral industrial cooperation in areas such as micro electronics and petroleum.

"We are awaiting the decision of the government of India in this matter," Hu Yanzhou, vice mayor of Shanghai, told a FICCI CEOs' delegation led by its president Saroj Kumar Poddar in Shanghai.

Hu, who briefed the FICCI delegation about the impressive double digit economic growth achieved by China's largest city, expressed keen interest in forging a new strategic partnership with states like Gujarat and Maharashtra, Poddar said.

The FICCI has invited the Shanghai government to send a high-level delegation to India to discuss new areas for mutually beneficial cooperation in the trade and investment areas, he said.

The delegation also had a meeting with the chairman of the Shanghai chapter of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Cen Fu Rong and discussed matters of common interest and further the cooperation between the two leading trade bodies, Poddar said, adding a delegation from the eastern metropolis would be visiting India during September/October this year.
