It was a difficult session for the markets as it ended in deep red on account of heavy selling seen in scrips across sectors. The BSE Sensex closed with a loss of over 330 points and the Nifty was down over 80 points.

- The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 4,969.29, down 1.68%.
- The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,103.97, down 2.06%.
- About 747 shares have advanced, 1575 shares declined, and 53 shares are unchanged.

Metal stocks like Sesa Goa, Sterlite Ind, Tata Steel, SAIL and JindalStainless closed lower. The BSE Metal Index closed at 7,130.05, down 4.84%.
The BSE Bankex also finished lower by 3.93% at 4,249.30 as selling was seen in Bank of India, Canara Bank, Andhra Bank, ICICI Bank and Union Bank.
FMCG stocks like McDowell, HLL, Tata Tea, ITC and Nestle also ended in red. The BSE FMCG Index closed at 1,687.92, down 3.85%.
Capital goods stocks like Greaves Cotton, BHEL, HEG, Gammon India, Praj Industries and Aban LoydChiles also slipped. The BSE Capital Goods Index ended down 3.56% at 6,317.32.
Auto stocks like Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor, Hero Honda, Sundram, Asahi India and Escorts closed low. The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,344.68, down 2.89%.
Oil stocks including BPCL, HPCL, IOC, Kochi Refinery and Reliance also tumbled. The BSE Oil & Gas Index ended at 4,581.18, down 2.13%.
Technology stocks like Mphasis BFL, Wipro, I-Flex Solution, HCL Tech and Satyam also plummeted. The BSE IT Index dropped 1.56% to end at 3,353.71.
The BSE Consumer Durables Index witnessed a of 1.2% to close at 2,588.93 due to Titan Industries, BPL, Whirlpool, Su-Raj Diamonds and Samtel Color.
The BSE Healthcare Index also closed down 1.04% at 3,000.07 amid selling in pharma stocks like Glenmark, Lupin, Divis Labs, GlaxoSmithKline, Cipla, Matrix Lab, FDC and Aventis Pharma.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5549.72 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 20801.73 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2740.3 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 29091.75 crore versus Rs 31415.93 cr on Friday.
