The markets exhibited strong volatile movements during the intra-day trades today.
After opening with a positive gap of 23 points at 6,629, the Sensex surged ahead to touch an early high of 6,645 on stock-specific gains.
While the index slipped into the red in mid-morning trades, it soon bounced back into positive territory to display a range-bound (positive) trend till mid-noon trades.
The markets witnessed a sharp turnaround in late noon trades as wide-spread selling pressure across-the-board saw the Sensex plunge deep into the red to touch an intra-day low of 6,531.
The Sensex, after displaying an intra-day movement of 114 points, dropped 61 points to close at 6,545. The Nifty, too, after a mixed outing, lost 19 points to 2,050.
ONGC crahsed 2.58% (Rs 24) to Rs 893. While Reliance dipped a per cent (Rs 5) to Rs 565, HLL closed down a tad at Rs 132. ITC, however, was up Rs 4 at Rs 1,374.
Infosys slumped 2% (Rs 45) to Rs 2,187. While Wipro moved up 1.61% (Rs 11) to Rs 680, Satyam was up a rupee at Rs 423.
ICICI Bank tumbled 3.57% (Rs 15) to Rs 409. While HDFC Bank gained 1.64% (Rs 9) to Rs 562, SBI was up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 655.
Cipla declined 2.64% (Rs 7) to Rs 253. While Ranbaxy lost a per cent (Rs 9) to Rs 986,
L&T declined 2.14% (Rs 22) to Rs 1,004, and BHEL lost 2.47% (Rs 20) to Rs 790. While Tisco dipped 1.18% (Rs 5) to Rs 386, Tata Power was down 1.39% (Rsn 5) at Rs 347.
Tata Motors advanced 2.79% (Rs 11) to Rs 424. Hero Honda clocked a per cent gain (Rs 6) to Rs 541, Maruti was up Rs 2 at Rs 410. Bajaj dropped 2.61% (Rs 28) to Rs 1,039.
Grasim and Gujarat Ambuja ended with marginal losses at Rs 1,225 and Rs 408, respectively. ACC, however, was up a notch at Rs 364.
