Red Hat, the world's largest distributor of linux operating systems, is planning to set up the second Red Hat training centre in India.
The centre, which will be located in Mumbai, will offer corporate training and other regular certification courses in linux.
The first such training centre is located in Pune. Red Hat operates a network of 80 training partners to impart training to the masses in linux and other related technologies.
Javed Tapia, director (India), Red Hat, claims that within just two years of Red Hat's arrival in the country, many corporates and government agencies have included linux in their overall system requirements.
"We grew 100 per cent the previous year, albeit on a small base, and hope to achieve a similar growth this year as well," Tapia said.
He, however, declined to reveal any financial figures. In addition to moving to a larger premises in Mumbai, the company has also expanded its operations to Delhi and Bangalore to cater to increasing business opportunities there.
Tapia said Red Hat is planning an aggressive push in the desktop operating systems segment, and is eyeing a 10 per cent share this year.
The segment is currently almost entirely dominated by the operating systems of rival Microsoft Corporation. Red Hat's desktop OS is branded Red Hat 8.0.
The company, which initially extended its international original equipment manufacturer relationship with global hardware players like IBM, HP and Dell, has recently extended its presence in India through tie-ups with HCL Technologies and LG.
