InfoSpace, a developer of metasearch products that helps people easily search and discover the Web, has opened its first R&D centre in India. Located in Bangalore, this will be the company's largest R&D centre outside of Bellevue, the US-headquartered company said in a statement.

Jim Voelker, Chairman and CEO, InfoSpace, Inc said, "We are extremely pleased to have set-up InfoSpace's first R&D center in India. India's high growth and depth of technology talent make it an exciting location to expand our global research capabilities."

Globally, InfoSpace's R&D headcount is about 130 people with majority of them located in Bellevue.

The Bangalore centre which has close to 20 people now, will ramp up in size in due course, according to company sources. It will focus on enhancing the development and delivery of InfoSpace's consumer products and business solutions.

The centre will also focus on development of products in the areas of private label search, private label portal and DNS (server not found) error services.

"In a very short span, the Bangalore R&D center has developed two products in the DNS and portal solutions space. Having got such a kickstart, I believe the centre will significantly contribute and augment InfoSpace's globally distributed R&D network," said Srishti Sofat, country manager, InfoSpace, India.
