Wipro Chairman Azim Premji, who holds 81.4 per cent stake in the country's third-largest software company, does not seem to have all that high a salary.

Premji, who has been ranked 38th in the Forbes list of billionaires with a personal wealth of $9.3 billion, has a salary lower than that of Vineet Agarwal, president, Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting.

While Premji earned annual salary of $96,775 in 2005-06, Agarwal emerged the highest earner with $142, 086. But if incentives are taken into account, Premji forges ahead with a package of $392,195 -- the highest, according to the company's annual report for 2005-06.

The largest total package, however, went to Vivek Paul, who resigned as vice-chairman of the Wipro board and chief executive officer of its global IT services and products business in October 2005. Before his resignation, Paul was the highest salary taker in the Wipro group with $268,765 and an annual incentive of $1,030,137.

Senior officials like Suresh Vaswani, Suresh C Senapaty, Ramesh Emani, A L Rao, Sudip Banerjee and Girish S Paranjpe are also ahead of Premji.

While Vaswani, president - global IT service lines, earned $126,482, Senapaty, CFO and executive VP - finance, took home $123,624 and Ramesh Emani, president - embedded and product engineering solutions, Wipro Technologies, cornered $122,810.

A L Rao, president - technology services and chief operating officer with $120,023, Sudip Banerjee, president - enterprise solutions, with $114,246 and Girish S Paranjpe, president - banking, finance and insurance vertical, Wipro Technologies, with $112,670 are also ahead of Premji in terms of annual salary.
