To tide over recurring power shortage, the Uttar Pradesh government is in the process of setting up new power projects in the state while carrying out renovations on existing projects.

Two 500 MW units would be installed at Harduaganj and Paricha with the help of BHEL, Uttar Pradesh Power Generation Corporation managing director Avnish Awasthi said on Monday, adding that the state would have to produce at least 60 to 70 per cent of its power requirement to achieve self sufficiency.

BHEL would also undertake the renovation of five 200 MW unit at the Obbra thermal power plant.

Bidding for the private sector Anpara-C power project would open on May 22 next for which a pre-bid conference would be held in Lucknow on Monday, Awasthi said.

The Bhumi Pujan of the 330 MW Srinagar power project in Uttaranchal was conducted on Saturday and work at this Birla group project would begin soon, he said.
