According to Computer Association of Eastern India (COMPASS) president Pawan Jajodia, 55 lakh PCs were sold in India in 2006-07 with Eastern region accounting for 15 lakh registering about 30 per cent growth in sales in the region.
Jajodia said that there was a 15-20 per cent drop in prices of computer products, including PCs, pushing up sales all over the country.
COMPASS, stated to be one of the leading representative bodies of IT entrepreneurs and traders in the country, is set to flag off its mega 12th annual IT exhibition in Kolkata from December 14-17 aimed at promoting IT trade in the region. This year, the COMPASS theme is 'Computer for Everyone'.
About 75 IT producers will participate in the annual IT event in India and is expected to draw over one lakh visitors to the IT fair to be held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. "The COMPASS ITPlex project is now being given a final shape and in a month or two COMPASS will announce the details soon," he said.
