The government on Monday made it clear that it does not propose to tinker with the existing mechanism of setting up Pay Commission for revision of wages for central government employees and said the issue of interim relief will be decided by the panel.

"I cannot see how there can be any automatic revisionÂ…the DA takes cares of the erosion of pay due to price increase", Finance Minister P Chidamabarm said adding that "the accepted mechanism for revising pay and allowances for government servants is the Pay Commission".

The government notified the 6th Central Pay Commission on October 5 this year asking it to submit its report within 18 months.

"The issue relating to payment of interim relief has been included as one of the terms of reference of the 6th CPC," he said adding the Commission has said it will give its report as early as possible.

Chidambaram, who faced a volley of questions, assured that steps would be taken to avoid anamolies while implementing the recommendations of the Pay Commission.

"After the Pay Commission submits its report, the government will have to consider it carefully and then take decisions. Usually, after decisions are taken, some anamolies are brought to our notice and they are addressed in a manner which is well settled within the government," he said.

"I will try not to give room for any possible anamolies," he said.
