M F Husain's paintings on your cellphone

Cannot afford to buy an M F Husain painting? No problem. Soon you can soon have a 100 of his masterpieces on your mobile phone!

Coruscant Tec, one of India's mobile solutions and content firms, has entered into an exclusive tie-up with Airtel to bring to its users M F Husain's paintings on mobile phones.

Airtel will offer these paintings in the form of top quality wallpapers and screen savers.

Coruscant Tec has the exclusive rights to digitise, aggregate and distribute M F Husain's paintings through mobile phones.

The paintings can be downloaded on GPRS/EDGE compliant mobile handsets on the Airtel service. The current lot of 100 paintings will be part of the 'Our Planet Called Earth' (OPCE) series, which will be closely followed by the series on Kamasutra and Mother Teresa.

"We are delighted to be the first to make Husain's art accessible to newer audiences through Airtel's network," said Ajay Adiseshann, managing director, Coruscant Tec in a media release.

Globally, the penetration of multimedia mobile phones is as high as 49 per cent. Entertainment services comprising pictures, ringtones and games have an estimated penetration rate of 30-35 per cent.

The mobile entertainment market globally is estimated to grow to $11 billion by 2007. In India, it is estimated to become a $1 billion industry by 2009.
