TVS Motor has come out with sales figures pointing to a good growth rate. R Chandramouli, senior vice-president (sales and services) at TVS Motor says that the company has not gone in for any discounts this festive season. However, he says that they will be promoting the TVS Star- electric start.

He says that their bike market share currently stands at 20 per cent, and that Star should stabilise at 75,000 units from now on.

Excerpts from CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview with R Chandramouli

Could you break up the sales figures between models for us?

It is 75,000 of Star and 16,000 of Apache, both of which are doing very well for us this season. Our growth has been 42 per cent over last September. In the two-wheeler segment also we have done extremely well at 1,62,200 units. We have had a growth of 34 per cent over the last year, same month.

What is the sales target you have set out for Star now?

I think it should stabilize around 75,000 units for the next second half of the period. I think with the introduction of the electric start recently, it will give a good boost to this brand.

What is the pre-festival scenario like in the market? Do you see any discounts in prices this festival season?

No. Our entire focus has been to add this new variant, which is the electric start, for the first time. So our strategy for the entire season will be the promotion of Star with an electric start.

With these sales, what is your market share at this point?

It is too early to say. I think, in total, two-wheelers will be close to 20 per cent.
