Modi said silos in government functioning had been demolished, stressing on collective decision making.

India GateExhorting India Inc to make ‘Brand India’ a success story across the globe, Prime  Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the government’s machinery had become geared to enable this.

Interacting with industrialists, Union ministers and state chief  secretaries on the occasion of a Make in India workshop, the prime minister said: “In the past three months, the government machinery has geared up and is now ready to change rules and laws, and speed up processes.”

The Make in India campaign was launched by Modi in September.

At the workshop, he said growth should be balanced across India, and special efforts made to ensure the eastern part, rich in natural resources, be as developed as the western part.

He called for making a globally recognised ‘Brand India’, one famous for ‘zero defect’ manufacturing, with no adverse impact on the environment.

He said he wanted maximum movement of people, money, machinery, materials and minerals across the country.

The day-long workshop saw sector experts and business representatives giving feedback. It is learnt they raised, among other things, the issues of problem in acquiring land and an inverted duty structure.

The Cabinet on Monday had approved an ordinance  to loosen some provisions in the land acquisition law to make things easier for industry. The issue of an inverted duty structure in a number of sectors is likely to be addressed in the coming Union Budget for 2015-16.

Modi said silos in government functioning had been demolished, stressing on collective decision making.

“Government is generally trapped in an 'ABCD' culture from top to bottom . . . A means Avoid, B-Bypass, C-Confuse, D-Delay. Our effort is to move from this culture to 'ROAD', where R stands for Responsibility, O-Ownership, A-Accountability, D-Discipline. We are committed to moving towards this road map,” he said.
