American aerospace major Honeywell plans to add 1,200 software engineers in India over the next 12 months, including 1,000 people in the country's aviation hub.

"We are currently around 3,000 people in Bangalore and will probably add another 1,000 professionals in the next 12 months," Honeywell India Technology Solutions managing

director Krishna Mikkilineni told reporters at the Bangalore IT.COM, dubbed as Asia's largest IT event.

The technology lab, in existence for over 10 years, has developed solutions for Honeywell's global customers and deployed them in the US, China and the Asia Pacific.

"We have a software development centre in Madurai (Tamil Nadu) since the last two years, and we are increasing our strength from 100 to 300 in the next 12 months," he said.

Bullish on leveraging the high talent pool and the eco-system in Bangalore, Mikkilineni said, Honeywell would invest $10 million to $15 million in expanding its operations in the country over the next year.

"India centre has moved up the value chain and is one of the key laboratories of the group serving all businesses of Honeywell," Mikkilineni said.

"We will be creating intellectual property here for our global operations," he said, adding the firm was also transferring the internal process to India, but did not elaborate on the extent of BPO work done here.
