Targeting the highly-skilled workforce in the country for its development and support work, the United States-based storage solution company Network Appliance on Tuesday said it will increase India headcount to 300 from the current 65 by 2005.

"We will ramp up the headcount in India to 300 from the current 65 by the end of 2005, and out of that, 200 will be in engineering while the remaining 100 for the global support centre," Daniel Warmenhoven, CEO, Network Appliance, told a press conference in New Delhi.

Once the ramp up is complete, India will have more than 10 per cent of its global workforce, he said.

He, however, did not give any investment details or estimates for India. The company last year set up India Technology Centre at Bangalore with an investment of Rs 75 crore (Rs 750 million).

This technology centre rolls out its Netcache product line. The company also has a global support centre in India giving product support to global customers.

The Bangalore centre is the fourth technology centre of Network Appliance, all the other three being in the US. In terms of global technology centres, the company has two in US and one in Europe.

"We see immense opportunity for NetApp in India. Attracting and retaining people is key to our success. The highly-talented and technically-savvy workforce in India will accelerate the development of NetApp innovative and technologically-advanced products," Warmenhoven said.
