Jet Airways has announced the induction of the state-of-the-art Airbus A330-200 aircraft into its fleet.

According to an official release issued to the Bombay Stock Exchange on Friday, the first of its kind to be operated in India, the A330 on June 01, 2006 has joined one of the world's youngest aircraft fleet, thereby taking the airline's fleet size to 55.

Powered by two Rolls Royce Trent 772B engines, the A330 aircraft can carry 226 passengers with a maximum take-off weight of 233 tons.

It is also equipped with the Less Paper Cockpit making Jet, the first operator in India to have approval to use the LPC concept.

Configured with 30 premier class seats and 196 economy class seats, the interior of the aircraft is designed to be more spacious.

The premier class flat bed seats of the A330 aircraft are pitched at 82 inches, giving passengers, comfort and luxury. The in-flight entertainment of the A330-200 is akin to that of the A340-300E aircraft and is equipped with the highly-advanced Panasonic 3000i IFE, the release said.

The maiden commercial flight of this A330-200 Aircraft will be on June 13, 2006 and it will thereafter operate 3 times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Delhi to Heathrow, London.

On the other four days of the week, this route will be served by the A340-300E aircraft. Deployment of this new aircraft on the Delhi-London route will enable Jet to operate a daily second frequency between Mumbai and London Heathrow effective July 10, 2006 using the A340-300E aircraft, the release added.
