Philadelphia, US-based Alliance Consulting Group Associates Inc, a $90-million IT consulting services and software solutions provider and subsidiary of Safeguard Scientifics Inc, has acquired Mensamind Inc, which has been renamed as Alliance India.

Mensamind, a Chicago-based consultancy and IT services company with principal operations in Hyderabad, was carved out of acquisition of the Indian operations of Devine Inc.

Addressing a press conference, Alliance Consulting Group chief executive officer Anthony A Ibarguen said that the deal was a mix of cash and stocks.

"We are envisaging an investment of around $50 million in the Hyderabad centre," he added.

The acquired entity will specialise in global delivery of software development, product development and related support services.

"Since our application outsourcing practice has been in high demand with corporate and ISV clients, the addition of Mensamind gives us the flexibility to do business the way our clients want, onsite, offsite, offshore or a blended hybrid of the three," he said.

Ibarguen said that they chose Mensamind after having looked at other companies in India. "Mensamind has successfully delivered outsourced engagements for US-based companies and that is why we thought it will complement Alliance Consulting's onsite software solutions and consulting experience and client base," he said.

Alliance India was recently appraised at CMM Level 5 quality certification. "Alliance India currently has 100 employees and will be increased to 1,000 in the next three years," Rao Tummalapalli, managing director of Alliance India said.

The Hyderabad-based executive management team, including Rao Tummalapalli, Gobind Baghasingh, Swaminathan Mani and Sarma Manthravadi, will lead Alliance India.

The Hyderabad team, along with along with US-based vice-president John McDowell, will form the nucleus of Alliance Consulting's global delivery centre of excellence.
