The Indian School of Business has claimed to be India's biggest B-school, after admitting 276 students to its fourth batch for the post-graduate programme in management.
"This year's class is the largest so far since the inception of ISB, and makes the ISB the biggest B-school in India," an ISB press release said on Wednesday.
ISB has been steadily ramping up its student numbers in keeping with its plans for expansion. "The school's founding class comprised 126 students. This year's class of 2005 is 276 strong -- up from last year's count of 219. The ISB has plans to eventually take its class strength to 560 over the next few years," the release added.
This year's class has a mix of engineers, finance professionals, marketing strategists, entrepreneurs and chartered accountants -- in fact, India's youngest CA who qualified at 21 years of age.
"Adding an extra edge to this blend and unique mix of diversity of students are students with unique profiles: two mountaineers, and two students who hold patents for technological innovations, a student from the World Bank and another who worked with an NGO in Bangladesh," the ISB said.
ISB has made focused efforts this year to target students from non-A class cities. The school has managed to draw as many as 152 students from tier-II cities like Nagpur, Jaipur, Kozhikode, Indore and Chandigarh.
The average age of the class is 27 years, the average GMAT score 690.
They bring an average of five years of prior work experience. Male students continue to dominate the class though the number of female students increased by 19 per cent over the previous year's strength to 52 students.
