Behuria is IOC chairman

Sarthak Behuria on Tuesday took over as the chairman of Indian Oil Corp, the country's largest oil refining and marketing company.

Prior to this, he was chairman and managing director of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.

Behuria arrived at IOC's new swanky office at Sadiq Nagar in South Delhi early Tuesday morning and assumed charge after M S Ramachandran retired on superannuation from services on Monday.

After completing his B.A. (Hons.) in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi, in 1971, and then post graduation in Business Administration form Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, he joined the erstwhile Burmah-Shell as a trainee in 1973.

During a career spanning over 31 years, he has handled over a dozen assignments covering multifunctional areas.

As director (operations), Oil Coordination Committee, he gained deep insight into the workings of the oil industry, particularly with regard to supply and distribution.

In June 1995, Behuria was appointed as executive director (sales), BPCL with the entire gamut of sales activities under his preview. In November 1998, Behuria was appointed as director (marketing) and in June 202 he took over as the head of the company.

He has been closely associated with the de-regulation process of the oil Industry which has taken effect from April 2002. Behuria has been associated with the formulation of the regulatory bill for downstream sector.
