K Raheja Corp Group company HyperCITY Retail India on Saturday its first HyperCITY Argos, a catalogue shopping retail format in Thane. HyperCITY Retail, along with its group company Shoppers' Stop, recently entered into a franchise agreement with the Home Retail Group, UK, to launch the Argos format in the country.

The retailer is planning to launch about half-a-dozen pilot stores in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai and based on the success, planning to open stores in other cities as well, said Andrew Levermore, CEO, HyperCITY Retail India.

Consumers can shop in three ways: place their orders over the phone, visit the stores or browse the entire range online at www.hypercityargos.com.

The retailer is planning to offer 4,700 products through the concept, Levermore said.

"This unique format of catalogue shopping is definitely suited for metros such as Mumbai, where retail space is expensive and has been a deterrent for retailers to reach out to a larger consumer base in a cost efficient manner. HyperCITY Argos' integrated multi-channel capability encompassing stores, home shopping and the internet, will give our consumers a new and convenient way to shop," Livermore said.

Jeff Fagan, general manager, Home Retail Group (India), said, "Argos is very excited about their first major international foray outside the UK and Ireland. We are therefore delighted to participate in this venture, which will enable us to evaluate the appeal of the Argos proposition in a key market such as India.''

The phone number is (022) 67733776 for Mumbai consumers. A catalogue can be bought at a HyperCITY Argos store for Rs 50.

Products can either be bought in store or delivered at home. HyperCITY Argos will also offer services such as home delivery, personal product finance, gift vouchers and a call centre to address customer queries, the company said.
