GAIL inks pact with Bangladesh co

State-run gas firm Gas Authority of India Ltd on Tuesday signed an agreement with Spectra International Ltd of Bangladesh to identify possibilities of joint cooperation in compressed natural gas infrastructure development projects and gas retailing in Bangladesh.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by GAIL director (planning) B S Negi and Khalid H Khan of Spectra, a GAIL press release said in New Delhi.

As part of the MoU, GAIL would consider undertaking CNG and gas distribution projects on Build, Own, Operate and Transfer basis.

"Spectra will offer certain services required in the implementation of projects in cost effective and timely manner and provide necessary support and coordination in obtaining all the statutory clearances," it said.

GAIL and Spectra would jointly identify opportunities for setting up gas sector training facilities in Bangladesh.

"Spectra will develop business opportunities involving GAIL's expertise in CNG, gas distribution and marketing to private and public sector companies in Bangladesh," the release said.

The two companies would also offer consultancy services to Bangladesh national oil company PetroBangla and its subsidiaries and other companies on design development, operation and maintenance and feasibility studies for CNG, gas distribution and marketing projects there.

Spectra is a leading company of Bangladesh engaged in civil construction and real estate, logistic support services, hospital engineering and healthcare, support services and liaison works to foreign companies in Bangladesh.
