Emami Ltd on Friday said the company was planning to foray into setting up ayurvedic and herbal spas and clinics both in the domestic and international market.

"We are working on setting up ayurvedic spas and skin clinics in India and abroad. We have already finalised a location in Dubai," R S Agarwal, chairman Emami said after the annual general meeting.

"We are in the process of identifying the technical partner for alliance for managing ayurvedic clinics and spas. We are negotiating with a few majors from Indonesia, Thailand and UK," he said.

The company may not use the Emami brand for spas and go in for an international brand. The company is expected to rollout its first spa in a year's time.

The ayurvedic spa and clinic venture would also help the company in boosting its international business. Emami has a strong presence in CIS countries, the Middle East and Africa.

"In order to take forward our international business, we have decided to make Boroplus a global brand and we have earmarked Rs 20-30 crore (Rs 200-300 million) for it," Agarwal said.

Exports contributed close to Rs 40 crore (Rs 400 million) during 2005-06 against the total turnover of Rs 310 crore (Rs 3.10 billion).

Emami products are already available in 52 countries. Meanwhile, the company would merge group marketing company J B Marketing with Emami during the current year.

Post merger the turnover of Emami would go up by over Rs 650 crore (Rs 6.5 bilion). In the Q1 period of the current year, the company posted a net profit of Rs 68 crore (Rs 680 million), registering a rise of 38 per cent over the corresponding period last year.
