Coffee retail chains are on a mission this winter to woo new customers and retain the old.

Through improved menu and hot coffee offerings, they are tempting customers to spend more time at their outlets and indulge themselves in the new offerings as well.

With the food business comprising nearly 30-32 per cent, coffee retail chains have begun to take a serious note of the trend, which is clearly visible this winter.

Keeping with the tradition of introducing something new every season, Barista has rolled out its peak winter offerings and close on heels, Coffee Day Xpress', no frills take-away kiosk promoted by the Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company, too has come out with its winter menu of delicious goodies.

According to Surjya Meher, head-marketing, Barista Coffee Company, this winter the company will offer flavoured teas (ginger-honey) and coffees with fat-free cream, followed by rich intense Espresso, called the soul of coffee, there is the Venetian Special - Espresso Romano that is a freshly brewed espresso served with a dollop of whipped cream.

The company will also introduce other flavours to complement the ever-popular Cappuccino and has introduced three new exotic flavours - Irish Cream, Cinnamon and the very tempting Tiramisu, he added.

For coffee indulgence, Barista has also rolled out its finest coffees like Swiss Hot Chocolates, Double Choco Fudge, Mocha Tease, Vanilla Caramel Latte, Caribbean Calypso-rum flavoured non-alcoholic coffee.

On the food menu, new wraps like Chicken Masala and Chilli Paneer that go well to warm up this winter are included. Also, many new crispies such as the Chicken Twister, Chicken Puffs, Spicy Potato Twister and Veggie Puffs, starting at Rs 20, along with existing favourites such as Paninis and Rolls are also to be introduced.

As far as combos go, Barista is offering chunks of crumbly apple pies and slopes of extra fudgy walnut brownies.

Choose from the very rich Dark Temptation, sinful Wicked Brownie, awesome Chocolate Iceberg, delicious Black Forest Magic, crumbly Apple Dive and exotic Apple Excess.

While Coffee Day has begun to offer sandwiches like the Green House sandwich (Spinach, Fenugreek leaves), Lemony Chicken sandwich (Chicken and Mayonnaise), Chilli Cheese sandwich (Green Chilli and Cheese), Xpress Fusion Chicken (Submarine Chicken, Capsicum, Mexican sauce), Xpress Fusion Veg (Submarine Capsicum, Carrot, Mexican sauce) and Criss Cross Cheese Twist (Baby Corn and Cheese).

"A special addition at Coffee Day to gel well with the chill of the winter is, delicious, ready-to-eat 'Biryanis'. Every day is a new day at the Kiosk, so there are different kinds of biryanis on different days.

Mughalai, Hyderabadi, Chetinadu, Hariali and Zfrani biryanis are available from Monday to Friday," said Sandip Mukherjee, president, Coffee Day Xpress.
