Chauhan takes over as Nortel India chief

Ravi Chauhan has been appointed managing director of Nortel India, responsible for the company's overall business in India effective immediately.

He has replaced Ashoka Valia, who moved back to Canada recently, to take up the role of vice-president -- corporate development.

"Ravi is an outstanding leader with extensive Nortel experience and a consistent track record of success," said Michael Pangia, president, Nortel Asia.

"He is the perfect choice to lead our India team in this period of rapid development across the country and deliver enhanced business performance for Nortel in this important market," he added.

Previously, Chauhan served Nortel India as vice-president -- enterprise solutions. Under his leadership, Nortel was able to grow the enterprise business and emerge a market leader in the country.

"I am excited about working
with the first class team in Nortel India to further build on the momentum we have already established in the enterprise, carrier and services segments," Chauhan said.

"When you combine top talent with a passion to win and a comprehensive product portfolio, I am confident we can take Nortel India to new heights and deliver the kind of value-added solutions to our customers in all sectors," he added.

Prior to joining Nortel, Chauhan held various executive positions at Digital Equipment India, in India, and at Cabletron Systems, where he was responsible for driving the service provider business for Asia Pacific. In his new role, Chauhan would continue to be based in Bangalore.
