Aspiring pilots? More opportunities ahead!

April 02, 2010 16:35 IST

PilotsThe gradual recovery of the markets from the recent global recession promises more opportunities for aspiring pilots in the aviation industry, a top official of US-based Delta Flight School said in Chennai on Friday.

"With signs of market recovering post recession, a requirement of 18,000 pilots a year is needed globally . . . the demand for qualified pilots (from India) is increasing," Delta Flight School Captain Prashanth Elangovan told reporters.

In view of this, the School is offering a 12 month course under scholarship programme 'All India Pilot Challenge 2010' for the first time in the country, mainly to create awareness among students on how to become future pilots, Elangovan said.

On completion of the course, students would get license from the Federation of Aviation Association and the DGCA, he said.

The school plans to attract 150 students for the course of which top 120 would be offered scholarships, including entire funding of Rs 25 lakh (Rs 2.5 million) fees.

"About 500,000 students across 5,000 schools across India are expected to participate in the competition", he said.
