B Muthuraman's 48-year stint with Tata Steel ends

Widely acknowledged as the person behind transforming Tata Steel into the world's eleventh-largest steel-maker, B Muthuraman on Friday had his last day in office after a 48-year stint and attaining the age of 70.

"Tata Steel has informed BSE that B Muthuraman, vice-chairman of the company has stepped down from the board of the company on September 26 on attaining the age of 70, in accordance with the company's retirement policy," the steel major said in an exchange filing.

G K Pillai to head Tata International

Tata International Limited, a global trading and distribution company, said it had appointed former bureaucrat G K Pillai as chairman of the company with effect from September 26. He succeeds B Muthuraman who retires after a long association with the Tata group.

Pillai a 1972 batch IAS officer from Kerala cadre is the second high profile bureaucrat to be roped in by the Tata Group.

Earlier Vijay Singh 1970 batch IAS officer from Madhya Pradesh cadre was appointed a non-executive director on the board of group holding company Tata Sons.

Pillai is the former union home secretary as well as former union commerce secretary. As special secretary in the commerce ministry, he was India's chief negotiator at the WTO.

Pillai is also chairman of IvyCap Ventures and serves on the boards of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and the Data Security Council of India.
