Avaya to hire 120 in India

Communications network company Avaya Inc on Thursday announced the start of the second phase of its India development centre and said it would be the company's largest research and development centre outside the US when fully operational.

"We already have close to 180 people in India Development Centre. In the second phase we have added additional capacity and will take the headcount of engineers to 300 by September," president of Avaya Labs US, Ravi Sethi said.

The company had opened the first phase of the development centre in Pune last year. Nasscom president Kiran Karnik inaugurated the second phase that covers an area of 23,000 Sq ft.

Most of the staff at the India development centre of the company will be working on the development of IP telephony solutions, applications and appliances for the global market.

The company will also establish a remote technical support team that will provide services support in the area of converged data and voice, messaging and unified communications systems.

The Pune centre would develop significant functionalities in portfolio of Avaya products and solutions, Sethi said. Apart from US and India, the company has development centres in UK, Germany, Israel, Australia and Japan.

He said all Avaya arms were looking at India and have significant growth plans. Sethi, however, did not disclose the money company has put in its development centre in Pune.
