Expanding its global presence, Amul plans to enter Australia after Japan.
The Rs 3,600 crore Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, which owns the Amul brand, is all set to enter the Japanese and Australian market.
Talks are going on with the Australian delegation which is in India.
Confirming the report to Business Standard, Parthi Bhatol, chairman of GCMMF, said, "We are going to enter the market of Australia after Japan with our product."
"The delegation from Japan and Australia who visited GCMMF, includes private and cooperative firms," Bhatol said.
He added that the Japanese delegation had already visited Amul and had talks with the representative of GCMMF.
While the Australian delegation visited on Monday.
He further said, "The talks are going on with them and it would take some time to get the matter approved."
He said that Amul will enter the new markets as early as in the next three months.
He said, "We will enter Japan first and later Australia within two to three months."
While talking about the products that will be introduced in both the markets, he said, "The milk product will be the main item that will be introduced, but we will also market milk."
"In the financial year 2005-06, the total export of GCMMF which owns the Amul brand was around Rs 135 crore. The maximum exports was in the Middle East," B M Vyas, GM, GCMMF said.
It is expected that export of both processed food as well as value-added agricultural produce is likely to grow at a faster pace in the next five years, which will result in profits in bulk for the food processing industry of India.
Milk production is expected to grow at an annual growth rate of five percent and should cross the target of 112 million tonne in the next few years.
