Adidas would launch eye wear for the Indian market soon.

Andreas Gellner, managing director, Adidas India Marketing Private Limited, said, "One of the licensees of Adidas would launch eye wear for the Indian market and these would imported from Austria."

The products would be priced between Rs 6000 and Rs 9000.

In a parallel development, one Adidas associate based in China would be setting up a unit in Chennai to produce high-end footwear from September 2006, Gellner said.

Around 70 per cent of the footwear sold, mainly in the middle and lower segments, were manufactured in India, he noted. Adidas would be adding another 45 outlets in 2006.

It had 100 outlets now, Gellner added.

Adidas would be eyeing malls for additional outlets as the scope to set up 'high-street' stores was limited, he claimed.

The company expected 90 per cent growth in sales in India this year and 60-70 per cent growth in 2006.

Adidas had marketshare of 25 per cent in India, he claimed.

India was fast emerging as focus country for Adidas.

"Adidas has 13 subsidiaries in Asia. When we started operation in 1994, our rank was 12 and by now we risen to fifth position," he claimed.

China was at present the biggest market in Asia.

Globally, the company spent around eight per cent of turnover on marketing.

Gellner unveiled the federation jersey for Germany, France, Argentina and Spain for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany here on December 3.
