The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre was doing everything possible to arrest the price rise and the state governments should realise that they too had a role to play in containing the prices, AICC General Secretary, Mohsina Kidwai said in Kozhikode on Tuesday.

"We have been taking necessary steps to bring down the price rise and the states too have a responsibility in this regard," she said at a public meeting, organised as part of the District Congress Committee's four-day conference.

Pulling up the CPI(M)-led LDF Government in Kerala for not initiating any concrete measures to check the price rise in the state, Kidwai said "let the state government list out the steps taken by it."

There was no meaning in blaming the Centre alone for the situation and the state governments should realise that they too had a responsibility, she said.

The state had shown progress only when the Congress-led United Democratic Front ruled it, she claimed, adding that the growing unity in the party, aided by the return of veteran leader, K Karunakaran, would help it to perform well in the next Parliamentary elections.

"With the return of Karunakaranji, the Congress has become more stronger and that will be reflected in our performance in the next elections," Kidwai said.

Inflation, the silent killer
